THE ORANGE THIEF

Co-writer, director, editor of Feature film ©2008 Warner Bros Entertainment Inc. “SURPRISE HIT!” San Francisco Chronicle

Written by James D’Angelo & Vinnie Angel Produced, Directed & Edited by J. D’Angelo, V. Angel & Artie Wilinski Shot on location in Lucca-Sicula, Sicily. Starring: Andrea Calabrese, Alessio Giottoli, Micaela Saxer, Jean-Marc Burger, Cesare Raiti, Nuccio Innocenzi

The ORANGE THIEF was filmed entirely in Sicilian and Italian languages in Lucca-Sicula, the Sicilian mountain town that is the hometown of James and Vinnie’s paternal grandparents– the town their grandfather fled as a teen to become a movie star in NYC (he had a few roles before talkies killed his career). The entire production cost less than $15,000 and most of scenes were shot with no crew- just a director, the actors, a thousand flies, and the boom on a tripod. The movie features the unforgettable music of Canzoniere Greciano Salentino.

“Solid storytelling, the beauty of the rolling Sicilian mountains and the timeless heart-warming traditional music to tie it all together.”- Shlomi Ron Cafe Pellicola

Videos: ABOVE The FULL FILM posted on Youtube. The previous version, viewed tens of thousands of times was crap, so Boogie uploaded a Hi-def. BELOW: (a) Changing a flat after a REALLY late night out during production with actors Jean-Marc Burger, Andrea Calabrese & Cesare Riatti BELOW (b) A voice card from my (then) 5 year old nephew successfully imitating a scene in the film.

“What poetry! What beauty! This movie radiates a subtle humanity that would make Mahatma Gandhi weep with joy. Such is the essence of The Orange Thief, a remarkable independent film by first time directors shot in Sicily over the course of one month, earning awards and sold out showings”– Kevin Haugen, The Leader
